My name is Mo (Morgane Wirtz); I am a multidisciplinary artist based in Brussels.
My work lies at the intersection of documentary film, photography, scenography, stain glass and light designing. Light, its reflections and its colours are at the heart of my practice. I also love telling stories.
I am curious about people. I’m interested in the different ways of inhabiting the world, particularly those that deviate from dominant models and challenge capitalist, patriarchal and neo-colonial structures.
Between 2018 and 2024, I worked as a journalist and photojournalist based in Niger, then in Tunisia. Whilst there, I undertook in-depth photographic projects and made documentary films, which have won international awards. My research also led me to write a doctoral thesis on human trafficking for ransom in Libya, which was awarded cum laude.
Today, I continue to photograph, film and tell stories, but I also spend a great deal of time working with my hands. After years spent capturing light, I am learning to shape it and play with it. This is reflected in my work as a scenographer as well as in the craft I practise.
Through these different forms of expression, I aim to inspire wonder.
I aim to show that it doesn’t take much to enjoy oneself, and that the materials society discards can be transformed into wonderful things. I am part of a cultural movement that aims to be accessible, close to people and respectful of the environment.
